Battery Cell Engineer

The person In Charge of Cell Engineering – Battery will work with the world’s leading manufacturers of lithium-ion batteries to ensure that a stateof- the-art battery cell that meets performance, life and safety requirements is developed.

Reports to:

  • This position will report to the Head of Powertrain

Responsibilities and Goals:
  • Develop cell requirements based on product targets, industry best practices and other inputs
  • Review, evaluate and select cell suppliers based on thorough understanding of capabilities
  • Analyze production methods and facilities, quality control plans/techniques, and raw materials to ensure a quality output
  • Manage prototype and sample builds including evaluation/test plans and corrective actions
  • Similar experience in technology product development
  • Lead scale up to mass production

Qualifications/Experience:
  • Bachelors, Master’s or Ph.D. in electrical or chemical engineering or equivalent
  • Experience with full life-cycle development of lithium-ion battery cells including launch into volume production
  • Experience working with lithium-ion battery cells in large-format, high voltage applications
  • Understanding of processes for lithium-ion battery production (mixing, winding, coating, assembly, formation and testing)
  • Understanding of failure modes pertinent to lithium-ion batteries in automotive applications

Battery Systems Engineer

The person In Charge of Systems Engineering – Battery will design, develop, analyze and validate a multi-disciplinary energy storage system for an electric vehicle, ensuring that a smooth, quiet, safe, efficient and powerful product is more than the sum of its parts. The candidate will develop requirements for systems and components, analyze possible system architectures, ensure functional safety and failure modes are mitigated, and that the interactions between the electrical, mechanical, thermal and software domains are well managed.

Reports to:

Responsibilities and Goals:
  • Develop system architectures for energy storage system to meet safety, performance, NVH, efficiency and cost targets
  • Perform safety-oriented analyses such as DFMEA and HARA
  • Create system and component requirements to ensure a high-quality product is developed
  • Design and develop system-wide behaviors, sequence diagrams, data/signal flows
  • Create system-level test and evaluation plans across all domains

Qualifications/Experience:
  • Bachelors, Master’s or Ph.D. in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Experience realizing complex, multi-disciplinary projects in a fastpaced environment.
  • Experience working with lithium-ion battery cells in large-format, high voltage applications
  • Experience with functional safety standards such as ISO 26262

Cad and Digital Modelers – All Levels

CIW Engineers

Will be responsible for the design, development and launch of the vehicle closures systems including hood, fenders, side doors and rear door.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Design and development of Closures-in-White systems to meet vehicle requirements (function, cost, weight)
  • Develop alternative engineer solutions for design themes including hinge axis, cutlines, sealing flange development and provide feedback to design team
  • Work on cross-functional teams (Studio, Manufacturing, BIW) to develop efficient designs and leading the integration of interfacing components
  • Interact with CAE team and interpret results to meet all Regulatory, Safety, NVH, Deflection and Fatigue requirements
  • Development of DFMEA, DVP&Rs and GD&T documentation
  • Manage deliverables for all program milestones including cost and timing
  • Support testing and launch activities

Competencies:
  • Experience developing closures systems from initial concept through launch
  • Knowledge of CIW construction solutions including Stamping, Extrusions and Castings along with understanding of design practices
  • Experience with multi material construction (AHSS, UHSS, Aluminum and composites)
  • Knowledge of joining technologies including Self-Piercing Rivets, Welding, Bonding
  • Development of complex 3D CAD including Surfacing in Catia V5 or V6 along with release and PLM experience
  • Working well in cross-functional groups under pressure to develop optimal solutions for the vehicle

Required education and experience:
  • Associates Degree with 10+ years industry experience
  • Minimum 3 years designing of Closures-in-White systems

Lead Chassis Engineer

Own the suspension architecture and design, collaborate with other stakeholders to deliver vehicle performance, packaging, mass, cost and timing targets.

Responsibilities and Goals:

  • Define the overall chassis architecture for the front and rear suspension, brake systems and steering system
  • Lead the design and release of suspension control arms, springs, bushings, ball joints, links, and fasteners
  • Select the brake systems and steering components
  • Manage deliverables and suppliers to meet program milestones and prototype builds
  • Construct Design Verification Plan (DVP)
  • Coordinate with manufacturing group on mass production assembly solutions
  • Support mass and cost evaluations
  • Identify, prove, and implement cost saving proposals
  • Collaborate with Vehicle Dynamics to determine key driving attributes

Steering Systems

Own the design and release of the Electronic Steering Systems, including mechanical packaging, Steering Assist, and relevant ADAS interfaces.

Responsibilities and Goals:

  • Collaborate with the Vehicle Dynamics team to design and meet vehicle performance targets
  • Define and manage all technical requirements through the design and validation phases
  • Manage deliverables and suppliers to meet program milestones and prototype builds
  • Construct Design Verification Plan (DVP) and coordinate execution of verification tests throughout program milestones
  • Coordinate with manufacturing on mass production assembly solutions and component quality
  • Support FUSA team with Functional Safety and Failure Mode Analysis Strategy for the Steering system
  • Network Communication and Software Release integration with other Vehicle controllers

Qualifications/Experience:

PCB Designer

The PCB Designer will report to the Head of Powertrain.

Job purpose:

  • The PCB Designer will produce and layout printed circuit board (PCB)artwork from schematics for embedded control systems.

Responsibilities and Goals:
  • Produce high-quality PCB artwork from schematics, best practices and other requirements
  • Create PCB sourcing packages and interface with suppliers for quoting
  • Create and maintain component libraries and other databases for PCB development
  • Create and maintain template documents for PCB development
  • CInterface directly with suppliers providing technical support during the quoting and fabrication process

Qualifications/Experience:
  • Technical education in electrical/electronics
  • Five years of experience developing PCBs for high-quality environments such as automotive, aerospace, defense or high-end computer products
  • Experience with differential pair routing, high voltage, creepage and clearance standards, IPC workmanship standards and other industry norms and standards
  • Understanding of modern techniques for fabricating circuit boards and the impact of each technique to the reliability and cost of the finished product
  • Understanding of key Design for Manufacturing principals for circuit board fabrication and assembly

NC Programmer

VoltaEV is seeking a Sr. NC Programmer to join our CNC Technology team. This is a manufacturing engineering position with a focus on machining complex automotive concepts and prototypes. Work is performed with general direction. The position exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches on assignments. The candidate will guide design and development of part holding strategies, tooling selection, multi-axis mill and lathe NC Programs, part program simulation (Vericut) and complete setup documentation. Leadership, attention to detail, Team player, and get it done attitude are the character traits found in the professional that will help us fulfil our mission

Responsibilities:

  • Develop NC programs utilizing Siemens NX or Autodesk PowerMILL
  • Practice Run Right First Time programming approach
  • Familiar with lights out manufacturing
  • Develop tooling solutions, as needed, both cutting tools and fixturing
  • Support the CNC Machinists as needed to ensure successful part run
  • Determine and formalize technological parameters through CNC programs and participate in the CNC program archiving process
  • Assure full technological documentation with CNC path, featuring and tooling information
  • Contribute new ideas and positive support to the current process by implementing productivity actions in order to improve the process and respect objectives
  • Optimize CNC programs for cycle time reductions
  • Participate in capital equipment purchases by recommending, specifying, installation coordination, and buy off
  • Actively be involved in solving manufacturing and quality issues and implementing correct actions
  • Assist with operator training initiatives and participate in development of operator training programs

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a High School Diploma / GED and at least 10 years of CNC programming experience). Siemens NX, or Autodesk PowerMILL CAM programming experience. Must have experience with large format 5 Axis Gantry machines, and have worked with large parts. Experience programming and general operation with Fanuc, Heidenhain TNC530, and Okuma OSP CNC controls. Must be able to quickly adapt to changes and update programs accordingly. Ideal candidate will have extensive background in 3D toolpaths and have worked in an environment where at least 90% of the toolpaths being generated were 3 or 5 axis in nature. Must be able to read and understand NC Code to identify troubleshoot problems at the machine. CAD modeling and drafting experience is required. Previous machine shop experience is desirable a huge plus. Must be self-guided, a thinker, and work well in a high paced Team environment with aggressive project deadlines. Will make presentations of concepts and designs to Leaders and other Teams using PowerPoint, Excel, and other common Microsoft or presentation software tools.
